What size should an ITF-14 barcode be?

The ITF-14 barcode symbol is used for logistics and is a larger symbol as it was adapted for printing on poor quality material.

Below you can find a diagram showing the measurements for an ITF-14 barcode symbol based on the nominal X-dimension 1.016 mm (0.0400 in.).

The X dimension, or module width, is the width of the narrowest bar or space at 100% magnification. The ITF-14 only has two widths of bars, narrow and wide.

At nominal size:
  • Narrow bar: 1.016 mm
  • Wide bar: 2.540 mm

The ITF-14 is scanned bi-directionally and a dark bar, or bearer bar, surrounds the symbol to protect it from a "short scan". The Quiet Zones are also contained within the bearer bar to help ensure proper scanning.
