A GLN, or Global Location Number, is used in EDI messaging to send and receive correspondence such as invoices or orders.
Do I need to get a GLN Licence?
If one of your trading partners has asked you to supply a GLN or an EDI set up, you will need to purchase a GLN Licence.
If you haven't been asked for a GLN or to set up EDI, you don't need to get a GLN Licence.
What if I need a GLN after I've already opened my account?
Once you become a GS1 Ireland member, you can purchase any additional licences you need, including GLNs.
To purchase a GLN:
- Log into www.gs1ie.org using the Member's Login in the upper right corner.
- Click Apply for Licences and then scroll until you see EDI Location Codes.
- Add the GLN Licnece to your cart, accept the Terms and Conditions, and continue onto the payment page.
- Once we receive your application and payment, we will process your licence within 1-2 business days and then you will receive an email with your licence information.
What do I do with my GLN?
After you've received your GLN, you will need to supply the number to any trading partners who have requested it. You may also need to contact an EDI solutions company to get your EDI set up, if you haven't already done so.
