What is the Clone button in Barcode Manager?

The Clone button in Barcode Manager allows you to quickly copy and create a new product profile using the information from an item you've already added. Fields that may be different, such as a flavour or size can then be edited.

Cloning an existing product in Barcode Manager can be a great choice if you need to add a new product that shares a lot of the same product information.

For example, say you sell shirts and they come in 2 different colours (red and blue) and 3 sizes (small, medium, and large). By entering one version of the product, a small red shirt, and then cloning it, you can bypass adding the same information repeatedly and simply update the size and colour for each variation.

Please Note - Cloning a product creates an exact copy of the existing product, including the Packaging Level which cannot be changed. If you  need to enter a product with a different Packaging Level you will need to go to Add Product on the Dashboard or My Products page.

How to clone a product

  • Go to the My Products page by either clicking My Products on the left or View Products on the Barcode Manager Dashboard.
  • Click the name of the product you would like to clone and scroll down to the bottom of the Edit Product page.
  • Click the Base Unit Indicator if it isn't already clicked and then click Update.
  • Click Clone and a pop up will appear asking you to confirm your selection. Click OK and this will take you to your new cloned product.

Updating Product Information

When you are in the new cloned product, you will see that all of the fields have been duplicated exactly and that the Product Description field will note that it is a cloned product. To make sure you can differentiate between the original and the cloned product, you will need to update any fields that contain different information.

Some fields you may want to update are:

  • Product Variant
  • Net Content
  • Net Content Measurement Unit
  • Product Description
  • Company/Internal Product Code or SKU

After you've added the new information, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Update.

Your new product is now created and you can share your GTIN with trading partners.
